February 2016 - Pusch Ridge Christian Academy, Oro Valley, AZ

Sunsets are incredible in the desert.  Every evening was a different picture show.

This month has been action packed with serving at Pusch Ridge Christian Academy as well as visiting with Sarah, our daughter, and her family.  Sarah is a full-time veterinarian in the Tucson area and her husband, Vince, is the pastor of Mountain Valley Nazarene Church.  Evangeline and Abigail have taken it upon themselves to entertain Grannie & G’pa during the month that we have been in Tucson.  Fun, fun, fun!

Fun at the park with Abigail

The girls spent many days and nights with us in the Big Bus!

Evangeline choosing higher ground.

Abigail helping mom unload dishwasher - what a big girl!

Twirling with G'Pa.

Pusch Ridge Christian Academy has used both us women and men for many different tasks around the campus.  Meredith and Carol Nering have joined us here during the month but unfortunately they encountered the flu while here and have learned where many medical facilities are as well as drug stores.  The flu hit the school hard and furious also, one day as many as 80 out of 450 students were absent followed by several 60+ days.  Sunny and warm the days have been but the flu grew to the point that the news deemed the state of Arizona the number 1 state with the highest flu epidemic.

Regardless, Carol and Gail worked in the office putting together mailings for an upcoming fundraiser event, assembling booklets containing financial information for the parents, working in the cafeteria for several days as fill ins, and sewing Shakesperian costumes for the annual medieval week.  Meredith and Wayne worked several days on the sports fields, applying weed killer on several acres, moving bleachers for sports events, repairing machinery and electrical work in the athletic building.

2 costumes made for Medieval Days.

Bleachers had to be relocated.

Even the potty rooms had to be relocated!

Plumbing rework on a Sunday afternoon!

Electrical ad-ons in the weight room. Exit signs.

Tanks and tanks of weed killer applied all over the campus.

Sports fields groomed continuously.

Oh yeah, the chickens needed a ladder to roost upon.

This time of year the Tucson area celebrates “Rodeo Days”, unbelievably so that all the schools close for 2 days!  If you have never been to a rodeo, you certainly must add this to your bucket list of things to attend.  Scoring by the riders as well as the animals themselves is quite interesting and quite frankly why anyone would want to put their body in that kind of jeopardy is beyond my understanding!

Also, we took in the annual Gem & Mineral Show in Tucson.  Gorgeous jewelry, fossil collections and large glorious stones were on display.  Made me realize again, just how beautiful heaven will be when we get to see it with our own eyes.

The Sonoran Desert is magnificent this time of year.  We were able to attend the Desert Museum and the National Saguaro Park.  It is quite evident that the saguaros are in no danger of extinction!  In the pictures below it looks like a sea of cacti.  At the Desert Museum we were able to attend the raptor presentation.  Owls are still my favorite - their eyes pierce my soul.  God in His expertise is the most awesome creator.  He gave us beautiful and most intriguing things to explore and gaze upon.  Thank you God.

Sunsets are different each and every day.

My first tree pic for 2016.  Taken at Sarah & Vince's church.
Reminds me that God wants us to stay flexible and available always.

Are you able to pick Wayne out in these 2 pics?

He is almost dead center in both - a sea of saguaro cacti.

 The raptor demonstration was fascinating.

Just a little mountain climbing for Mr. Sheep. His 2 women were just below!

Believe it or not flowers are incredible in the desert.
Evangeline posing amongst the flowers.

And don't forget the rodeo...........just like TV!

Visiting with family has been an added bonus while being a SOWER.  The 2 grand girls here in Tucson kept us in stitches and they tried to keep us young as well, but my muscles and bones still remind me that I am no longer 40 years old any longer!  We went to the park, got our flashlights and golf carts for a “bunny hunt”, popped copious amounts of popcorn, got caught up on Mickey Mouse and Doc McStuffins and oh yeah, watched that movie again……….FROZEN!  Helped out with child sitting for the grown ups and hopefully provided them with a few grown up moments of peace and re-grouping!  I’ll say it again………..the g’kids are growing up waaaaay too quickly and we are aging waaaaaaay too fast.  I wish we could push a button to slow this retirement thing down a bit.

So, the whole time we have been here it has not rained once.  I miss the rain, dew and even the cloudy days.  Tuesday we head west and north.  Next month we will be in Scotts Valley, CA just outside of San Jose so a few rain drops will be awaiting us there!  We will go thru Wickenburg where we can check on Standing Stones and possibly stay in Barstow, CA and check on Ironwood.  Friends and spiritual family all along the way.

Pull in the slides, dump out the desert sand from the car floor boards and start our engines!  RV crazy or what?  California here we come………….
