Mission Aviation Fellowship - Nampa, ID, July & August 2018

Mission Aviation Fellowship, Nampa, ID
July & August 2018

This was a 5 star RV park, concrete pads, wonderful laundry facility for volunteers and a great place to get walking exercise all on paved roads.  But will mention that Nampa in July and August is HOT, HOT, and HOT!  Once the sun goes down during the early afternoon it is very pleasant.  Donnie the volunteer coordinator was new on the job during our stay.  She was a pleasure to work for.  We worked with June & Boyd DeFrance for the month of July, they had other commitments for August.
So we were the only SOWERs for August but the Nordell's joined us as an independent for a couple of weeks.  It was so much fun getting to know them and help them buy a new 5th wheel!

Ladies had numerous jobs during the 2 months.

My first assignment was to paint model
airplanes made from various parts,
like spark plugs, cotter pins, etc.

They were taking these to an annual
airshow in Oshkosh, WI so they needed
to be completed within 2 weeks.

June made these masks to be used
under 3D viewers at the Oshkosh, WI airshow.

Gail also helped with apt. cleaning, computer updates, incoming mail and outgoing thank you notes.

Here Wayne & Boyd installed a concrete
pad so that they could then put on a
park bench so that parents could watch
their children on the playground.

Pouring and leveling
concrete in the hot sun was
exhausting.  Must stay hydrated.

The men had a project of moving office
furniture, then gutting the office to make
one huge office to be divided into cubicles
in the hangar.

Additional volunteer work while at MAF consisted of helping prepare food for a wedding of a couple that both were employed at MAF.

Yes, even Wayne got in the kitchen act!

Donnie and Gail were
cutting cucumber slices.
Wayne had so much watermelon it had to be housed in a refrigerator in the hangar.

One weekend we visited another SOWER
in Joseph, OR.  Wayne got to ride in a small
airplane with Roy over Hell's Canyon.

Craters of the moon is a very interesting place to visit.  This is remains of volcanic activity years ago.

Floating down the river in Nampa one weekend was fun to say the least!  Someone in the local church we were visiting let us borrow a blow up boat which we learned quickly had a whole in the bottom section.  So we quickly drank our water from their bottles and used them to bail water with for the entire trip!  Would we do again - NOT, just a little nerve wracking!

Here are pics of groups going down a river.  Some got stuck on the rocks and had to get out to re-position their boats to continue the trip down!

This is the river we floated down.

A mini SOWER get together at a local retired couples house in Nampa.  This one constituted home made ice cream with all the toppings.  So much fun and reminiscing!

So, now we will begin to make our way to Turner, Oregon for the next leg of this adventure.  There we will be hot and heavy into planning the 2018 Rally at Aldersgate.  Woohoo!
